2019-10-29 – Nova Scotia has targeted registered nurses (NOC 3012) in a new draw through the provincial Express Entry-linked Labour Market Priorities Stream.
The October 28 draw saw 430 invitations issued in the first Nova Scotia Nominee Program draw to target NOC 3012, for registered nurses or registered psychiatric nurses.
Candidates needed to have three or more years of work experience in NOC 3012, a Canadian Language Benchmark score of 8 or higher in English or French, and hold a bachelor’s degree or have completed a three-year program to be included in the draw.

Nova Scotia also targets NOC 3413 for nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates through its Occupations In-Demand stream. This stream is specifically for NOC C occupations, considered intermediate skilled.
Requirements for October 28 Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities Draw
- Primary occupation of a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse (NOC 3012).
- Letters of reference from employers to demonstrate they have 3 or more years of experience as a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse.
- Canadian Language Benchmark score of 8 or higher in English or French in all language abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree OR have completed a program of three or more years at a university, college, trade or technical school, or another institute.
- Have submitted an expression of interest to the Express Entry pool on or after November 1, 2018.
What Are The General Requirements For Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities?
Candidates must:
- Receive a Letter of Interest from the Nova Scotia Nominee Program within the Express Entry system.
- Meet the minimum work experience requirements of the Express Entry stream for which you have qualified.
- Demonstrate sufficient funds to successfully establish yourself and your family in Nova Scotia and to pay your immigration costs and travel expenses.
- Have legal status in your current country of residence.
- Meet eligibility criteria in place at the time you are issued a Letter of Interest.
This was the seventh draw in the history of the Labour Market Priorities stream and the first to specifically target NOC 3012 for registered nurses or registered psychiatric nurses.
Nova Scotia has issued letters of interest to 1,576 candidates through the stream during 2019.
The stream was launched in August 2018 to give Nova Scotia the flexibility to target certain occupations and candidates through the Nova Scotia Nominee Program.
Previously, draws have also been conducted aimed at carpenters (NOC 7271), financial auditors and accountants (NOC 1111), early childhood educators and assistants (NOC 4214) and at Francophone candidates.
