I am not new to this forum and recently posted questions regarding sponsoring my husband to Canada. When I chanced on the work stub, I was surprised to find a tone of pessimism regarding the Canadian job market. I am ready for nasty surprises but here is the thing,
- I have been a sales person for all my life (5 years) since graduating from a US university - Molec. Bio. - I just quit my job in automobile sales (a top Japanese brand) to move to Canada. I am an Indian citizen. - I need to find a job in Vancouver. I am looking for a job in medical device sales or anything else in sales. - Eventually once I have sponsored my husband I want to move onto something else like real estate.
Does any one on this forum have any advice for me as to how to go about my job search? Do I need to be in Vancouver to apply for such positions? I appreciate both positive and negative feedback. |

Vancouver? Urine-soaked hell hole. 14 minutes of summer punctuated with 99 months of rain, garbage strikes and bureacracy.
North America's worst drug ghetto of course. Google: "Vancouver, Downtown East Side".
Highest housing prices in canada other than Toronto metro area.
Indians are hated in canada with a passion. Pakis, pakis and more pakis. That is what you will be told while you drive a cab for a living. Want to be called a paki by a white woman who thinks you are her haji? Then you can be a security guard. More white people will call you names, more white men and more white women. You will still be a paki in canada driving cab or being a security guard. Which do you want to be?
Don't do a job search unless you speak perfect un-accented english with the canadian twist of hockey called, eh? eh? eh? But mostly I recommend Michael Jackson's skin lightening treatment.

Canada2America,
Are you really trying to help anyone on this forum? Do you live in Canada or the States?
I lived a long time in the States and can speak perfect English with a US accent. I can even do neutral, if that makes any difference.
Now for chrissakes, someone start giving some good advice on this forum or lead us to some.
For example, where do I start looking for jobs in Van. |

| Canada2America, yikes!!! If you don't have something good to say, then don't say it at all. Nothing of what you said is true. I've lived here for 2 years and it's a beautiful place that smells fresh and like the ocean, not like urine like you said. And just like everywhere else in this world, of course, there's bad parts about it, too. The good ones are more than the bad ones. Be quiet and give it a rest. This is the least racist country in the world. Do a little more reading... Sheesh! Ignorant people get on my nerves! |

Hi All,
Hadn't checked in for a while. Looks like there's been action on this page!
Thank you all for your input.
Canada2America, I do have some friends in Vancouver.
I don't really get how, but someone's told me that since I have a US degree, I should be able to get past the Canadian-experience barrier.
I will really have to get into applying and only then will I know.
Thanks.

Job_seeker,
You mentioned the PNP program in relation to finding a job in BC. I visited the site but I could not figure out how I can find a job through PNP... confused..

If you want a job as a car salesman, lots of that around in Vancouver. All commission basis. But then I know that some sectors of the retail car industry have collapsed so a bunch of people have left the retail sales side.... dealerships are eager to recruit new people.

No. I thought you were trying to come to Canada and I was thinking the PNP route would be faster but it seems you either are a citizen or a permanent resident already because you're sponsoring your husband to Canada. If you're looking for a job in the greater Vancouver area, best that you be here - newspapers, websites, network connections (people you meet, friends) are possible sources of information about job openings.
